Semi Finals (21st and 22nd December)
Sunday 22nd
Slade Merry Xmas Everbody (42) v (58) Chris Rea Driving home for Christmas
Chris Rea has driven home for Christmas! Well the final anyway. With a close run contest he has edged out the seventies battle axes Slade. Rea started strongly and while Noddy and his gang rallied well in the second half it simply was not enough to overturn the momentum of the day. Slade a finalist in 2008 and a semi finalist in 2016will no doubt be back in four years time with a number one seed position. Chris Rea was undone at the semi final stage last time out by Mariah Carey, who he defeated in the quarter finals this time round, and will now compete for the crown in the grand final!
Saturday 21st
Darlene Love (Christmas) Baby Please come home (50) v (50) P Wham! Last Christmas
A semi final that was nip and tuck all the way, as the evening progressed Darlene Love looked to have done enough but a late burst from wham saw the scores even out and after no further scoring in extra time the match went to penalties. Darlene Love missed her first but scored the following four, but sadly for her, Wham! were clinical and converted all five and are through to the Grand Final.
With Darlene's elimination we now know that the cup will be retained by a British act once again as the American tilt has ended with Love's elimination.
Quarter Finals (19th, 20th December)
Friday 20th
Roy Wood Wizzard I wish it could be Christmas Everyday (47) v (53) Wham! Last Christmas
Mariah Carey All I want for Christmas (38) v (62) Chris Rea Driving home for Christmas
The former champion Wizzard is eliminated by Wham! who have finally returned to the heights of their greatest outing to date, the semi finals as they once achieved in 2012. Roy Wood & Wizzard were gracious in defeat, stating that "the lads deserve it. The boys have put a great big smile on everybody's face and I hope they can go on to win!" George Michael was touched and extended his gratitude to the fans " Hopefully this year, I can saveme from tears...."
Unfortunately there were tears a plenty in the other quarter final. Mariah was distraught at her exit at the hands of Chris Rea. "All I want for Christmas is...." she tried to express herself but was lost in a confused state. A spokesperson gave a statement later expressing the diva's distraught confusion. "She does not know what she has to do to get this over the line. She is th eQueen of Christmas, shoudl that not be enough to take this crown as well?" Chris Rea was beaming ear to ear "I just love to see their faces!" he blethered as he sped on by in his car.
Thursday 19th
The Pogues Fairtale of New York (50) v P (50) Darlene Love (Christmas) Baby Please Come Home!
Slade Merry Xmas Everbody (53 )v (47) East 17 Stay Another Day
In an emotional night Darlene Love took the Pogues all the way to the penalty shoot out after a thrilling encounter. The Motown sound overcame the fairytale and Darlene was overcome with emotion.
"We have never got beyond this stage before and I am thrilled" she said tearfully. "There is still a semi final to prepare for but for now we can just enjoy this moment, the first black representation in the semi finals"
Indeed the first female in the semi finals outside of Kirsty McColl and Mariah Carey too. A triumph for Darlene Love, unburdened by what has been.
There were also tears in the other quarter final as Brian Harvey broke down on the pitch at the final whistle of his narrow defeat to Slade. Noddy Holder had commiserated him but it was a tough blow.
"We got this far last time round, and I really thought we could go further this time out." he croaked through the tears. But he regained his compusre before the end of the interview and came out strong "I think we have put the doubters in their place, we deserve to be amongst the Christmas greats and will come back in four years time and bring the steam"
Noddy Holder when asked for comment grabbed the microphone and screamed "It's Christmas!"

Game 2 - December 9th:
The results of the second round of matches sees The Pogues all but confirm their passage to the Last 16 and Mudd manage to raw exactly level with The Pretenders. The Waitresses continue to not be backed to the level that they deserve. A final match against the Pogues is unlikely to produce a giant killing.

Pogues cruise through but Mudd pull off a draw against Pretenders and the two are completely equal. the Pretenders prgoress ona coin toss. A dramatic conclusion to Group A

Roy Wood | 73 v 23 | Beach Boys | December 13th |
Boney M | 50 v 50 | Band Aid | December 13th |
Game 1 - December 2nd:
Roy Wood and Wizzard were always likely to come out on top against Band Aid but the margin of victory probaby indicates that the 40th anniversay of the charity release will not be a cheerful one. Meanwhile the Beach Boys have put a cat amongst the pigeons with their unexpected very close run victory over Boney M.
Game 2 - December 9th:
Band Aid have given themselves a fighting chance with a narrow victory over The Beach Boys. Roy Wood is looking strong, making light work of Boney M and looking like the form outfit to watch.
Game 3 - December 13th:
Band Aid performed an extraordinary escape as they found their way out of the group in most unlikely fashion. Beach Boys will rue their chances as they head home.

Game 1 - December 3rd:
Darlene Love takes the points against Lennon but it proved impossible to find any clear blue water between Bowie & Bing and McCartney.
Game 2: December 10th:
Darlene Love has seen off two Beatles and has now ensured her place in the Last 16. It looks as if The Beatles face off will be for pride only, but a solid win for Mccartney might just sneak him past Bowie and Bing.
Game 3 - December 13th:
Nothing moved the dial on this last day of matches. McCartney playing to a draw against old partner Lennon and loses out to Bing and Bowie for the Last 16 slot.

Game 2- December 10th:
Queen have surprised many by holding on for a shot at Last 16. Shakin Stevens will not be defending his crown beyond the group stages.
Game 3 - December 13th
Wham slammed Queen but neither Aled Jones or Shakin Stevens could take advantage. The defending champion heads home with just one poin tin his pocket when a mere handful of votes could have snuck him through after a lackluster showing. Instea it it Queen who march on

Game 3 - December 14th
Slade made a strong finish but there was drama in the show down between Mike Oldfield and Dean Martin. A late surge in votes for Mike Oldfield to pull back a draw in the dying minutes of the round sparked a stewards inquiry. The findings confirmed irregularities in the voting patterns and in stunning scenes Dean Martin was araded the win and the points

East 17 | 90 v 10 | Steeleye Span | December 14th |
Game 1 - December 6th:
The Saint Nicholas feast matches saw the crooners narrowly lose out to East 17 but comfortably see off Steeleye Span. This group will provide some fascinating second round matches, potentially giving us a Cronner play off on the 14th.
Game 2: December 11th:
East 17 have booked passage to the Last 16 and the Crooner showdown has become a nail biter of a potential knock out match. Steeleye Span impress with a draw but seem unlikely to trouble East 17 and challenge for second spot.
Game 3: December 14th:
Further drama as in the face off of the crooners Nat King cole who had been in second place throughout the stage slipped up against Bing to be sent home. East 17 have become a power house and look to confidently stride into the Last 16,

Game 1 - December 7th:
The Queen of Christmas brutally curb stomped Elton, in such a manner that he may fail to recover. Andy Williams saw off a valiant effort from Jethro Tull.
Game 2 - December 12th:
AS a contest Group G is a done deal. Mariah and Andy will be heading into the Last 16 and the match between the two will decide which takes which side of the draw. Elton and Jethro are left to squabble over the wooden spoon. Elton has been humbled this year.
Game 3 - December 14th:
